ottorino respighi • “fountains of rome no. 3. the fountain of trevi”
I think I can safely say that Respighi’s one of my favorite composers. He’s known for his Roman Trilogy, three symphonies evoking different aspects of Rome. He’s mostly known for “Pines of Rome”, the flying whale sequence in Fantasia 2000 is scored to this piece.
Here we have a piece dedicated to the Trevi Fountain. It’s surreal hearing it because I’m here in Italy and about a week ago I went to the Trevi Fountain, threw the coin in, did the whole experience. Respighi’s piece perfectly encapsulates the triumphant and magnetic presence the fountain has. It’s a magnificent work of art, both the fountain and Respighi’s music.
